Scarborough OAT

Project Brief: The scheme formed part of the overall Scarborough North Bay regeneration.

The project involved the refurbishment of an existing amphitheatre which was originally opened in 1932 and had closed in 1986. After closure all of the stages and dressing rooms were demolished, the seating was removed and the structure was allowed to fall into a state of disrepair.

Other works included repair/cleaning works to the man made lake, creating a new stage, construction of artist changing facilities and venue control stations within Northstead Manor Gardens.

It was a priority to create an outdoor entertainment venue which could be complete and open in time for the summer 2010 holiday season and to attract visitors to the town.

Project Summary:

The scheme was completed on time and within budget and was officially opened by HRH Queen Elizabeth II in May 2010.

Since completion the venue has attracted such artists as Sir Elton John, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Status Quo.
