Project Brief: The project involved the construction of a new surgery for a two GP practice as well as a pharmacy shell unit and expansion space for the future growth of the practice.

The building was required to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating however the Client from the outset aimed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and produce their most sustainable building to date.

Project Summary:

The sustainability of the building was provided by the introduction of a 50kW photovoltaic array on the roof of the building which provided the power for amongst other things the point of use water and room heaters.

The building was also highly insulated and air tight so to maintain a pleasant environment a heat recovery and fresh air ventilation system was incorporated to all rooms and circulation spaces.

The completed building achieved the targeted BREEAM rating of Excellent and was shortlisted in the Healthcare category of the prestigious BREEAM Awards 2014.
